ETS(Emergency Towing System) & SPM(Single Point Mooring)are type-approved products approved by major classification societies, and they are mandatory equipment on all kinds of tanker ships. Emergency Towing Arrangements (ETS) for Non-Tanker Vessels (SOLAS II-1/3-4) Previously, only oil tankers were required to have an Emergency Towing Arrangement (ETA). However, starting from January 1, 2026, all newly constructed non-tanker vessels will also be required to be equipped with ETAs. This requirement will take effect from January 1, 2028, and new technical guidelines are currently being developed to support this mandate. Additionally, while strong points were previously required, the new regulations will allow for the use of existing bollards, provided they meet the necessary strength and Safe Working Load (SWL) criteria. The specific requirements will be detailed in the forthcoming guidelines. ETS must be deployable within 60 minutes at the bow and within 15 minutes at the stern of the vessel.
